You lost me at the blade grinder.
I'm having a hard time following your ratios. 3 cups of coffee and 3 cups of water (nearly 1500ml) yields only 500ml of concentrate. Then you dilute your final result with another 1:1.
I like my recipe for cold brewed iced coffee better. Get into your car drive to Starbucks. 😋
I cannot find the exact recipe for cold filtered coffee–but it was a woman who appeared to be in her house. It called for all kinds of complicated techniques–the most ridiculous being having to store the made coffee in the refrigerator for at east 24 hours or longer! And then the other part took another 24 hours! Who in the name of God wants to take 2 days to make a CUP OF COFFEE!? I don't care what it takes like–with that amount of effort required, I would rather use instant coffee!
1:1? I have a 1 qt french press, am I really going to use 4 cups of beans?

Unrealistic and unnecessarily complex method.
I finally broke down and bought a commercial cold brew coffee set up (starts with a T). It's a lot less complicated than messing around with a French Press, cheese cloth, and wringing out grounds. And it lets me crank out two quarts of coffee liqueur at a time. The filters just need to be cleaned running them under forceful tap water and dried. They last a long time if taken care of properly. I enjoy American Test Kitchen. They do great work teaching how to pull of interesting recipes. But this ATK demonstration is needlessly complicated and a bit too precious. Better luck next time.
There has to be an easier way…
I don't have a favorite roast. What is the best coffer for making cold brew? I don't like strong coffee, more like Scooters than Starbucks. Anyone have a suggestion?
Nooooo don’t throw the grounds away! Dry out the grounds in the oven at a low temp then mix with a cheap body wash and hair conditioner. (I’ve found drying out the grounds makes the final product less goopy and more like a paste.) Voila! A coffee body scrub. (Don’t use on your face!) I put a little bit of tea tree oil in, too. Use before shaving legs or underarms.
Soak grounds in a jar and use an aero press to filter. The French press, and filters are unnecessary. Much easier !
How long can the cold coffee be stored in fridge?
Sous vide at 154Ffor two hours, store in fridge for next morning. I use a thick plastic 1.2L tostitos container to brew because jars kept breaking. Ground amounts depend on how strong you want it, I do 8 cups in a burr during the winter to drink cold with no ice, and 12+ in the summer to add ice.I think I got the idea from Serious Eats, ATK needs to up their sous vide content.
Using a toddy is far superior. You get a much better filtered product.

Put the grounds in the ground
KEEP CHILLED, Start to Finish: I don't like the taste of coffee left at room temp on the counter to brew. I put 4 coffee scoops (8 Tbsp) of ground coffee in a 32-oz mason jar; then, pour refrigerated, chilled distilled water over the grounds, filling the jar. I put a watertight mason lid on the jar; shake it; put it in the fridge to brew for 24 hours; shaking a few times throughout. After 24 hours, I use the same method in the video to filter the grounds out of the Cold Brew. The same time I filter my cold brew, I start another cold brew in mason jar to filter next day. That way, I have cold brew coffee ready to pour over ice to drink every morning. Organic Sumatra coffee is my favorite coffee.
So why is it when I use 3 cups of grounds my press of the same size is much, much, fuller when pressing? Infact I only recovered 10oz of liquid from using this process. So I added more water and resteeped. I watched more videos on this and this video has been over complicated. It's almost like Starbucks sponsored the video so people don't try it at home. This type of video disappoints me with this show. I expect better from America's test kitchen.
This should be a tutorial on how to waste all of your free time for one cup of coffee.
How long can you keep freshly ground coffee
I just go with 2L water with 7 heaping tablespoons of coffee. Works like a charm.
There is no “good” cold brew. You don’t get “more subtle flavors.” Of all places America’s test kitchen should know the heat brings out the flavor and oils. So dumb.
Step 1: Make coffee while you are waiting to make coffee so you will have coffee when you make coffee.

Good thing I already have a coffee grinder, French press, and cheese cloth. Buying all the stuff and waiting 24 hours is definitely worth it. If I didn’t see this video, I might’ve just just brewed strong coffee, let it cool, then added ice to it. This method is much easier!
