Any chance you've tested a good dairy free replacement "butter" that will work with that Hollandaise?
I will try all!! Love German pancakes!!😋
Espresso machine picking really is a "how involved do you want to be?" game. The inexpensive automated one with the pods has "loss leader" written all over it. I can't say it for certain. It's only a perception. A loss leader is a product that is sold at a price that is either so low that the sale itself doesn't cover the company's expenses in making that one unit, or it doesn't cover the cost of manufacturing and all of the other expenses (R&D, marketing, etc.).
Either way, the point is that selling the product and calling it a day is not the profit model. Usually, it's about "locking" the buyer into future purchases that, over time, will bring a profit to the company. I could sell you a game console for a price that doesn't cover the R&D and manufacturing and marketing, if I'm confident that you'll purchase enough games where the licensing fees will be a net profit for me. Similarly, I can sell you an espresso machine at a loss as long as the coffee that goes into it has to be packaged by my company (at a higher price to you).
A machine that only accepts ground coffee rather than pods is open-source.
The pod machines are convenient. The convenience is persistent throughout the business model. So if your priority is convenience, and you can afford the pods, then go for the convenience, maybe… knowing that you don't get to choose your beans.
But if you value price, then maybe not so much. This machine will cost you less to buy than some others, but that's only because they're counting on the profits from forcing you to spend a little too much for the ground coffee, day after day, for several years. That adds up.
You can get a reputable espresso machine that takes pre-ground coffee, paired with a decent variable burr grinder that takes any whole-bean coffee you can buy at the store and grinds it down to whatever consistency you need (a very fine grind for espresso), and go that route. It will cost you more up front than a pod machine, but the coffee beans you put into it will only cost as much as coffee beans cost rather than having to pay a pod-tax every time. Plus it's better for the environment and your coffee bean choices are way more broad.

You people rock!! Always the best
Man I wish they would have put the link to what kinda "knife" he is using on the apples. I'm pretty sure that is the only thing missing in my life. 🤣
Yum! I love German Pancake!
Both of the recipes were wonderful, I was totally impressed with German pancake, wow, thanks

Oh My , I am mesmerized 😮😳😋❤💜
🌹🌸🌷 🌾🌿🍀 yummylicious 😘
I want to be Julia or Bridget's son or father or husband or best friend or live in neighbor or whatever just for the experience of getting to eat all the incredible food that the two of them provide all the time. I'm ecstatic when I watch ATK. I have done some of the simpler recipes and their phenomenal but I'm not the best cook and maybe I'm a little bit lazy because I would really love it if Julia or Bridgitte were here for me. The eggs benedict look beyond phenomenal😊. Love you guys
Why hasn't ATK provided a home recipe to bake english muffins?
WOW! on that Dutch Baby. WTG, Dan! Also, they usually have up to two sticks of butter in pan; you did it with 3 TBS. Also, that was magic with the Eggs Benedict, Julia. No matter how many foodies or chefs produce on YT or cooking shows, I always rely on ATK. Always a better recipe and the best methods.
Sounds risky.
Julia is so too cool for school with her collar popped! I love it! Ultra neat and preppy!!!
❤
Poached eggs are easiest done sous vide, cook it in it's egg shell. Stunning results each and every time. No stress and you can cook for a big party without breaking a sweat.
Bridget can make me Hollandaise sauce and eggs anytime.
I heard Pokémon theme song
Can’t get the recipe without having to subscribe and pay $5 a month?? Weird..
I just wondering, if those burned part of the bread is healthy to eat ? Karsinogenik test maybe?
Best! The German Pancake is like Chef John's Popovers. Thanks!
I really enjoy the recipes and equipment tests. However, can you please remember that only America still uses imperial measurements, the rest of the world now uses the metric scale for weight and centigrade for temperature, so can you please state Fahrenheit when quoting temperatures for those of us watching elsewhere in the world ?
When I cook apples on the stovetop I add the peels to the pan. They release their pectine and a bit of colour into the sauce, so it takes on a lovely hue and luscious texture. Of course I fish them out and discard them before serving 🙂
These people cannot help it that they are Yankees.
