Great video..straight to the point..Nice looking pies.
I prefer my pastry made with marge and lard, even cheaper!
I love your videos, I'm an experienced baker myself but still enjoy watching. I wonder if it would be possible to factor in the aprroximate fuel costs? I combine bakes requiring the same temperature to reduce usage.
Picky picky picky – can't believe there were complaints about the egg wash cost! Trolls – some people need to get a life! Oh, and I do EXACTLY the same with leftover egg wash rather than wasting it. I'm in Australia so the prices are very different here but I still really appreciate the economy of your recipes. These pies look great and I will gird my loins and aim to conquer the feared pastry after seeing how easy it is from your great instructions. QUESTION – if you wanted to freeze them should you bake them first. I'm guessing YES. Cheers from Oz!
Instead of salt in the pastry I used mixed herbs. Lovely pie and way better than shop bought.
Thank you they looked so full and mouth watering you always make it look done with such ease your a good teacher for people who wont to try baking from scratch .x
I guess the nearest comparison would be hollands pies….they cost ยฃ4 for 4….
I wouldn't call them deep filled (the hollands pies) and the electricity would cost the same as you have to cook those too.
Thankyou so much for sharing! Iโve always wanted to find an easy cost friendly pie recipe, so I cannot wait to make this myself! Keep the videos up youโre doing amazing! Thanks again
Gosh I love your videos!!
Love to see a knife that's been used for other household jobs! I've only 2 knives that don't have ends missing, bent etc.
Really enjoyed this video. Can you freeze the pies?
Looks lovely Dave, will you be doing a homemade steak pie sometime soon?
Love your videos which are very much appreciated. My friend just called round, I showed her this video and she was very impressed at the easy to follow instructions so I said I would make some and invite her round to try it.
You certainly make me feel at home, I have the same kitchen units! They look delish โค
Delicious ๐ ๐
Good video, why do some viewers nit pick over the silliest thing
@6:10 pretty sure I have a bag of my grandmother's old bone handled knives, like that one on the table some place. lol
Thank you so but you donโt give us the cost of gas and electricity for cooking. Many thanks for these recipes.
I actually like watching these videos. The videos are very informative. As a chef myself your videos are good for beginning people or even beginner chefs. Back to the basics it's good to see this. I watched all your videos just this morning.
Didn't you used to have a different channel? Not about cooking?
I made the lemon drizzle cake…came out delious!
Absolutely fantastic, well done. Alex from Portugal ๐ต๐น โค
Only recently found your videos and they are perfect and so easy. Thank you
I must makes these pies they look like ones from the shop. Good job, I really enjoy your videos
Hi Dave, I โค your videos and content. Thanks for taking the time to work out the cost of the individual ingredients; it just goes to show how cheap some basic/store cupboard staples are. Good call on the celery – it does add a beautiful savoury note. Plus, when you make things yourself you know exactly whatโs in it. I also thought if you had more than three people to feed you could make one (larger) pie and serve it up with cheapest vegetables you can get hold off. With regard to calculating the cost of baking, that is tricky, given different fuels and tariffs. I personally know using my oven to bake costs more than using the hob/stovetop. My request to you would be for something you can cook/bake on the hob – maybe using a griddle or frying pan – maybe Welsh cakes, drop scones (probably going a bit old-school here). Thanks again.
Can you include the oven temperature for the U.S.?
Is corn flour the same as corn starch?
How do you make clotted cream?

You are an absolute legend. I was watching this with my Mrs and I said Iโm going to tell him no egg and then the egg. So I said as I continued to watch what about the rest of the egg. You got all scenarios covered. Thanks for your sense of humour and acknowledging mine. I subscribed my old mate you have a lovely days.

Please explain difference between corn starch vs corn flour. Not sure I can get corn flour. Thank you.
I love how you use a saucer to measure the size of your pastry! Absolutely beautiful!
These look delicious..I am definitely making these!
Brilliant channel, I hope it blows up huge for you. Thanks a million ๐๐ค
They look grand!!
Grat channel.
I think you do an amazing job just pricing the basics. It helps a lot. The recipes are awesome too – good wholesome home cooking. I don't think pricing in the baking is necessary. Like you said it's too complicated. I think what you're doing already is a massive help – people know they can cook good wholesome food and it won't cost the earth to do so.
I can't wait to try this recipe. You've inspired me to make my own pastry! If freezing, would you recommend freezing them before baking, or afterwards? Also, would it be possible to heat from frozen or should I defrost the pie first? Thanks
They look delicious l will make these …๐what is the measurement of your pie moulds please.. l need to order some from you no where ๐
The pie looks delishhhhh David, that with some mashed potato marbled with brown fruity sauce and it's a meal fit for a KIng!
Single people should get together and make good wholesome dinners like this, sharing the cost, and it's much better than all the gunk in supermarket pies.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge David much appreciated xx Jean from Scotland.
I hope this is not a daft question, but about the lard for pastry making, I donโt eat pork. Would it work alright with all butter? I realise thatโs a bit more expensive. This looks a great recipe, and as you mentioned, there are lots of variations one could add, to suit individual tastes. ๐
Wow, those pies looked delicious! Xx
