Kyle Bryner just wanted to be a chef like his dad. And he took that dream all the way – he’s a successful competition cook, pitmaster, and restaurant owner. And now he’s made his Appalachian neighbors proud by using Appalachian BBQ to win this season’s BBQ Brawl competition on the Food Network! Thanks to Shawn Thatcher for coming down to be a part of this project! Watch the video we made featuring Shawn here:

9:02 He pulls a knife out of his neck!
The Mountain Man is full of surprises.
Being humble, learning humility, and appreciating the little things in life is the most genuine way to live. I too am starting up my own bbq food truck. I will be using an m67 Kiaser 2-1/2 truck. We are going to maintain a military theme. I can’t wait to get it going. Starting this upcoming family holiday, I am making brisket. For thanksgiving, we are making brisket, ham, turkey, and salmon on a traeger.
I've not watched BBQ Brawl, don't do television, but I'm going to find this and binge. Kyle has a gentle confidence and humility.
We grew up with beans in our chili (parents were from Wisconsin), but when we moved to Texas I was told it was illegal….going to revisit that.
I have seen a slight variation on Nashville Chicken. I suppose everyone has, inside the bun and closer to "buffalo chicken" for the sauce.
another great episode …great story
Lucky me, our cabin is 5 minutes away from his restaurant in Dillard. My husband, who makes ribs, took one bit of his ribs and said, “I don’t need to make my own ribs anymore”. The brisket is the best I’ve ever had. They have been selling out a lot this summer.
I'm not crying, you're crying ! great video !!!!
I've missed a few. But I'll make sure I watch them. Cheers!!!
I'm going to make a comment that I assure you comes from a place of total love and care. The part about this man's father passing and his further discussion about his son kind of pains me. So many of these amazing cooks don't appear to take their health as seriously as they maybe should. I used to watch Malcom Reed and my heart would break as it was apparent that he was far far too heavy. And I am sure miserable being so. I am SOO happy to see him leaning out and getting his weight under control. I absolutely wish the same for these folks. A family business is a dream. I pray they are on this planet for many many years to come doing what they love. Losing weight is hard. But the struggle is worth it. For many reasons.
Be blessed everyone!!!
Dude stop being such a Tool. SMH
I watch every season of "BBQ BRAWL," this season being no different. From the very first show, my money was on Kyle. Congratulations to a real down-home cook winning this season…👍🏼
Great story! Love the way Kyle’s bbq truly reflects himself, his family, and his Appalachian community culture.
What a awesome life's journey well deserved win.
I like pinto beans in my chili and I could care less about what Texas says about it. I'm from Tennessee and Tennessee is why Texas is not in Mexico….
Ive heard from a customer of mine about blue hound. Im headed to dillard to get a hotel for the night then headed to Cherokee NC. Blues hound will have my business forever. What's story…what an amazing pitmaster.
This guy is the real deal, thank you for sharing his story. GREAT VIDEO!
Another great and moving show Al. So proud of Kyle's win representing Ga BBQ.
Can't wait to get up to N Ga to try it!
Beans are beans. Thats just a version of some beans…. chilli doesn't have beans!
Great video. Ahhh beans the musical fruit 😂.
I believe in Thermo Pro but I use ThermoWorks for a reason
Can't wait to eat at the Blue Hound on our vacation. Kyle's story has already made it good without even trying it.
Congratulations Kyle👍
Great Episode, knocked it out of the park.
Kyle, your dad would want you to celebrate thanksgiving with all of your amazing talents ripping and roaring in the kitchen and blazing on the smoker, and feeding your family and friends.
Thank you, Al, for sharing my story. I am so thankful to be a part of your journey by sharing mine!
i liked the old channel way better liked AL cooking
I live in Texas and I love beans in my chili. I don’t like chili without beans.
That chili looks amazing. Throw is on some good fries! Can they make a good brunswick stew??
I’m with you Al. I prefer chili with no beans but their chilis had me second guessing myself!
In the Midwest if there’s no beans in the chili then it’s just coney sauce & that belongs on a hotdog, not in a bowl 😉
I’m not crying your crying!!! I couldn’t be more proud of my friend Kyle “MASTER OF Q” Ol Hollywood himself. Love that dude. Love his story and Al you keep stepping the game up!! Dude treats ya like family and he’s a legit good person which in this world is hard to find. Just watch how proud his wife and kids are of him. That’s says everything. I can’t wait to see what this guy does from here on out. Love you brothers. Kyle keep churning out great Q and Al keep raising the bar on telling our stories!! #Appalachianproud and for yall in the back it’s pronounced like I’m gonna throw an “apple at cha” so you don’t sound like a foreigner when you come to the region.
I’ve had my own view of Appalachian people only from movies but this man and family changes my point of view
Seem like damm good people
Another great story Al, and congratulations to kyle and family, another example of staying true to your roots🎉is always best, always listen the the wife.
Lol
What grill is he using? I tried to look for one like that. Thanks.
Another excellent episode, Al. Thank you.
Great Video. Yes Beans in Chilli 👍. Nice Picture of Popcorn Sutton on the wall.

#PHILLYPHILLY 🇺🇸
This Texan and home cook loves beans in his chili! No beans equals hot dog chili sauce!
I'm from Appalachia and yes, beans in your chili is wrong. Thanks for asking Kyle.
planning to come up from Atlanta to visit Blue Hound in the next few weeks on a day off hopefully. everything looks so dang delicious! love the story and seeing the traditions being passed down between his family generations.
Food, it brings people together ❤🔥
Cannot agree more. I also get his loving having done stuff with his dad… I lost my dad in 1991, I was 26. But I have many fond memories of doing things in my much younger years with model trains and the original Meccano, amongst other things. In a way, I've given my son his love for Indoor Skydiving (his first go was way back in 2014 having just turned 8) – he won Gold in one of the events at the recent Australian National Championships. And he loves tasting what he is now occasionally helping me cook on the bbq too.
Kyle, I'm sure your dad is smiling down on you, just as Elijah clearly loves being alongside you now. Your dad will be saying "That's my boy" And damn proud of it.
No such thing as too much garlic and ginger in cooking – that tandoor chicken looks amazing. Perfectly cooked and served up – gotta love science Al. And Maneet would be proud too
Now what's wrong with beans in chilli – yum. I don't see a problem with them… pfft to the Texan way of thinking, besides, Appalachia is a good decent drive from that lonely star place. Kyle's face told a thousand words attempting to say what he wanted to say to Elijah
Those fried ribs. Who doesn't love a good bit of something deliciously fried. That sauce sounds like a tasty flavour bomb too
Another heart warming feast for the tummy, heart and soul, Al – love your work, probably nearly as much as I reckon I'd love Kyle's cooking. Thank you for sharing his story
I want to meet Kyle. I'm so happy he won the competition and his son is amazing too. Much respect and I had to keep plenty of tissues around for this one. Behind The Food TV always surprises me when I think it can't get any better. The flavors were jumping off my screen.
