I Used ChatGPT to Bake the Most Unique Dessert Recipe

Hi Bold Bakers! Have you noticed how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking the world by storm? I mean, AI seems to be capable of doing so much! So, I was wondering, can ChatGPT make a better dessert recipe than a pro baker like me? To satisfy my curiosity, I gave a prompt to an AI chatbot and made the exact recipe it generated.
How do you think it turned out?

Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup fresh raspberries

Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a separate large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
5. Press two-thirds of the batter evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
6. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Add the raspberries and beat until well combined.
7. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cookie dough in the pan.
8. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cookie dough on top of the cream cheese mixture.
9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are set and the center is slightly jiggly.
10. Allow to cool before slicing into squares and serving.

  1. Just seeing this! It's very interesting (not to the end yet). I'm seeing kind of a dry dough there, hmmm…

About the technology, I grew up obviously with cookbooks, then became an adult with cooking apps. ChatGPT being the next step, I guess, could work once it's improved. But I think we are losing our on-the-fly skills though. I like the apps because you get feedback & international recipes the way they should be (i.e. american version Shephard's pie vs original- not saying there's a wrong way, but wrong to confuse a version with the original). Anyway, if we move forward to ChatGPT level of things, we won't be thinking for ourselves very much at all. It's happening slowly now. I like technology as a tool, but it is good to know things yourself so you can do your own problem solving👍

  2. Yesterday I used ChatGPT and asked it for a Mediterranean breakfast (it produced a breakfast bowl with chick peas, red onion, olives and cooked quinoa, a lemon and e v olive oil dressing some parsley and a sliced boiled egg. It was yummy! I asked it for a Mediterranean lunch and it gave me a classic Greek salad with grilled chicken, then when I asked for a dinner it gave me stuffed peppers. I cooked and ate all of that yesterday and it was scrummy! A very healthy day. I didn't ask it to create anything though so I may try that next 🙂

  3. ChatGPT will NEVER replace you or your wonderful recipes. I never realized how many test runs you go though when making a new recipe. That's probably why I can recreate your recipes and they come out good. I have to say then the brownie/cookie squares came out looking better than I thought!

  4. I will not be replacing you all with AI lol, but watching you take on AI recipes is very entertaining. As a matter of fact, this is probably the first time I commented lol. I followed because my Mom loves the channel but the tech mashup got me.

  5. I used to love reading the horrible recipes generated by AI (for laughs), but this was pretty amazing. It's coming a long way. Thanks for sharing it, Id love to see an improved version made by you. At first I thought it looked kind of unattractive but once cut I changed my mind.

  6. I think I would have to adjust the recipe. An AI recipe is missing the human touch. Texture is important and AI doesn't quite get that. Taste is also important. The recipe did taste good, those ingredients always taste good so AI did a good job on that. I would try an AI recipe but know that I would adjust anything I felt wasn't right. Years of experience and knowledge of each ingredient and how they work together is needed to create a recipe that my family and I trust.

  7. Hi Gemma & Kevin, I thought this was interesting. The Dessert looked good. Gemma, I must say I much rather get my recipes from you who create, try the recipe out over and until you are fully satisfied. I prefer that your Human knowledge knows the tips about sifting Cocoa. It's enjoyable to see your creativity, the pictures, the decision to go with raspberries or strawberries.
For me it's more special. But this was very interesting 💚🤍🧡

  8. I wish we saw what it was like once it cooled and set. I don’t want A.I. recipes. I like looking at the photos in cookbooks, reading the authors thought and all that went into the book. I am in the middle of reading “ The Long Table Cookbook” by Amy Symington It is one of the most beautiful cookbooks I’ve read. A.I. can’t give me that love and care, the hear and soul of the recipes in a cookbook.

  9. Looks pretty. I'm not a professional baker but have been baking for 40 years; wedding cakes, other special occasion cakes. When I looked at the ingredients list I thought it would be way too dry. Glad it turned out well though!

  10. I played around with AI asking for dinner recipes l. They sounded good but have not made them. It made it easier than searching and having decision paralysis. I love all things technology so I would spend too much time on AI. You got a large following and most probably wouldn't use AI for recipes.

  11. It would be nice to use AI to inspire you for exotic combinations but then use your usual process to test and refine things to make them actually good. AI is a nice tool that may help us with new things or with higher efficiency. It's not a replacement for your work, though. At least not yet. 😁

  12. This is like the recipe a child makes up when they know only a little bit about cooking. Gemma, you absolutely did not love this process but liked the recipe, next time ask Chat GPT to do it "with methods by Gemma Stafford & __another chef__" to see what happens

  13. Very nice recipie Jemma! I love it! Cheesecake with home made cookie base! I think is dreamy and with choocolate i think i am in heaven! I love cheesecake, cookies and choocolate! O my good! You make my dream dessert! Thanks Gemma! Please write the ingredients in grams because in Usa cups is different than my mesauring cups wen we have in my country? Can we kake them with stawberries? Have a nice day and good weekend! Have a nice week! 👍👏🍫🍫🍫

  14. The way it's constructed reminds me of this dessert from a post that went sort of viral on Reddit – Carmelita bars! It's essentially a cookie bar made with an oat crisp/crumble dough, caramel sauce, and chocolate chips. I've tried the "original" recipe the OP referred to, the OP's rendition, and my own variation. My final version got the best results so far because it was more subtle in sweetness but also had some crunch from the added nuts and more diverse flavor profiles.

I think I'll try experimenting with this combo when raspberries are in season 😋
