  1. For soft tortillas don't use any baking powder use this recipe. Hottest tap water is ok. Soft pliable tortillas that won't dry out are made by kneading the dough for at least 5 minutes (knead in a ball not like you would with bread too much folding will toughen ) no refrigeration needed just cover and leave 30 min on counter then roll thin. ( tortillas made with baking powder will be thicker and will fluff and a bit harder to roll) they are fine also and are similar to store bought. Store tortillas in air tight container or zip lock bag. Enjoy!!

  2. Tortillas were not cooked all the way thru. Way to much lard. You kneed the dough 5-8 min. Way to thin. Tortillas are made different in different regions of Mexico. Check out Pattie’s J. Tortillas. I wanted to add just one more comment, the recipe was good, it's just that there are so many different ways of making tortillas, it's just like pie crust there are so many methods of making them. It depends on what state your in or country you live in. Mom would put baking powder in hers they were fluffy and tasty. I'm 72 and still trying to replicate her recipe. Mom used only 1/3 C of lard, later because of health reasons she changed to Crisco shortening. They still tasted the same.
