I worked with George Goble in the 80's when they had VAX-11/780 minicomputers at the department. He had a full blown video arcade game in his office called TEMPEST, and the vanity license plate on his car said UNIX. We LARPed dungeons and dragons in the steam tunnels, and played games like ZORK and colossal caves ADVENTURE and LARN on the original ARPANET, on green screen adm3 terminals with cherry keyboards running unix ( remember the unix prompt +++ and learning to program in FORTRAN with IBM punch cards ? ).
