  1. They are comparing apples to oranges here – you can’t expect a shelf stable pickle to compete in color and crunch with a refrigerator pickle – also most of the “food coloring” used in pickles is turmeric which is good for you.

  2. I think this test and the omission of addressing Claussen reflects the northeast-USA bias of the show, but also their time constraints. This is not the first test I've seen where the testing and presentation of results disregards regional variation in brand availability. (But, I'll add, that sometimes they do a bit in that direction.) This test was a miss.

  3. The first jar of Claussen I bought, I swore I'd never buy anything else. The second jar I bought tasted like just cucumbers in water. They can be inconsistent, but they can be amazing. I hated Mt Olive; super super soft. I mostly buy baby dills because they're usually much more crisp than spears.

  4. Does anyone know why Vlasic is now selling 16 oz of Polish dill spears in a 24 oz jar ???
The first thing I do when I open a bottle of spears is to put them in a much more narrow jar.
I have noticed recently that when I do this now, there are no extra pickles left over in the larger jar.
Why are they still selling these pickles in a much larger jar than they need ? I don't need all this extra pickle juice.
The jar is literally 50% bigger than it needs to be and is also annoying to try and fit in our refrigerator door.

  5. I usually buy Claussen but just found Boar's Head today. I think I might actually like Boar's Head more! There's more garlic flavor. Claussen seems to have a lighter taste. Both are truly excellent, though – fresh and crisp.
