I have the Pitt Boss PB1600PS1. I can't stand it. I cook a lot of Boston Butts through out the year. I have to clean the grill and the grease out of the firebox after every cook. I hate the slide in the middle of the drain plate. All it does is catch droppings and divert fat over the edge and into the fire box. I've lost countless cooks over this Pitt Boss catching on fire. Will never buy another Pitt Boss.
Would love to jump to a CTO or to a larger Pitts and Spitts. Can you compare those two?
lets bash the one people can afford and promote the one people can't $3,800 is a lot of money for something most people gonna use maybe a dozen times a year.
Pitts & Spitts pellet grills are glorified convection ovens. Smokes just like you'll see in most videos on Youtube where an ancillary smoke source is not employed… NO smoke after startup, NONE. Pitts & Spitts sent me a replacement controller within a week of me getting the 1250, telling me "oh, that's 'blue' smoke, it's smoking". More like invisible smoke. I've had it 5 years now & MUST use an ancillary smoke source. PITA & loss of the entire bottom grate. I guess they must be paying good to sponsor people to stand next to a smoker that is not even producing ANY smoke, how shameful. Wish I still had my circa 2007 USA made Traeger.
I have the Mak . It’s a stainless steel product made in Oregon where I live. It’s an absolutely wonderful pellet smoker completely made and has a warming box hooked to the side. Very impressed with it. I am looking at Pinson spitz at their new hybrid pellet smoker with offset that looks intriguing to me.
Jeremy I can promise you, you either found a lemon or bought a cheap Traeger. I have the Ironwood 885 and I have cooked well of 5000 hours on it with no issue. I am wondering why we cannot see any smoke coming from the stack or when you open the lid? Question, what is the lowest smoke temperature you can run at?
I had a P and S 1250. Very little smoke taste, problematic electronics. I GAVE it away. Really not worth the money. I bought a Camp Chef Woodwind Pro. For about 1/3 the cost, or less. The Camp Chef blows the P and S away in every category!!
What about the camp chef???
The only thing I was wondering, is do get much of a smoke ring.I never saw any smoke out of the stack or when you opened it….I have a Rec Tec and have plenty of smoke. And considering a Pitts and Spitts down the road.
With the smoke box attachment they sell for 150 this is the pellet grill to get over camp chef ww pro due to build quality alone
Nice review very helpful. I have heard nothing but good things about Pitts & Spitts. Pellet types you can use or what does Pitts & Spitts recommend?
Thanks for the info on the Pitts and Spits. I used to have an old Traeger, the "lil Tex". It did a decent job of smoking briskets and pork shoulders. I recently "upgraded" to a Traeger Silverton XL. It slow cooks just fine, but it doesn't smoke very well. I think they've made the combustion too efficient. It doesn 't do the job I want for smoking, so I'm taking it back. I want a "smoker" that does a good job of smoking. I didn't notice much smoke when you opened the lid of your P&S. I also want convenience, so I don't want the combustion make a mess with dust and I want a burn pot that is easy to empty without having to take greasy parts in and out of the smoker. I would have appreciated it if you had discussed how the burn pot on the P&S was accessed. Also a few words on the pellet dust it generates would have been good. Without this info, I am now considering – #1 the Lone Star pellet grill and #2, the General Mac 2 stainless. (I'm looking at the stainless because I live 200 yards from the ocean and steel/iron rusts quickly here. Can you tell me, how does easy is it to clean the P&S and what is the pellet dust like. In return for an answer I will subscribe to your channel. Thanks and be well.
If only my bank account (wife) would allow this purchase 😂
Would you recommend this for cooking a whole hog?
If anyone is curious the smoker is $3650. The smallest and cheapest one they make is $2150.
I’m seriously looking at this smoker. With the right pellets, does it give the protein that smoky flavor all of us stick burner desire?
I’ve got a Smokin Brothers Premier and really like it. Excellent customer service!
I have a budget of $2000 and was looking at the Recteq Tr 1250. I had a pit boss vertical smoker that always had an error code and would have to take meat out and put on grill or in oven. They parts never fixed. The only thing they never sent was the controller. I gave up and will never buy a pit boss anything. Just my personality. I want to stay under $2200 because I am a veteran with fixed income after some injuries acquired on deployments. Any real help would be so amazing. I live in Oklahoma. I do not need one as huge as yours. I usually cook for 4 but sometimes we might have 10 people over 3-4 times a year. I would like to do chicken, pork, steaks, burger and veggies. Saying that I do have a propane flat top grill.
Jeremy, have you tried the smoke cage on this to see if it's better than the woodwind pro?
Ok, I recently moved into a apartment😢 and need to transition into a pellet smoker, from a stick burner. And a small one at that. Any recommendations?
Discovered your channel while researching smokers to compliment my just finished our outdoor kitchen in our new home which includes an island with a built in gas grill, stove top burners, etc. I'd always had Weber Grills and grew up with my dad using a home made barrel smoker. But I want a modern pellet smoker to round out my cooking options due to ease of use, control and my family preferring grilled meats not being overpowered by smoke. But I spent a lot of time in the south while in the Army and personally love pit and off set BBQ. With your recommendations I really am leaning towards the Pitts & Spitts 1250 and wanted to know if you have and use their "Smoke Cage" and what you think of it? I think it would be a good compromise and I prefer the build and legacy quality of the Pitts & Spitts over say something like a Camp Chef Woodwind Pro or Masterbuilt Gravity etc. You probably have a video on this that just haven't binge watched yet lol. Thx and keep up the great content!
I live on the ocean. I need one made 100% out of 316 Stainless.
I brought a pitts and spitts 2000 because you like yours so much
I own a traeger and I’m having issues so I’m going to buy a P&S
have tried the lump charcoal chute they now sell ?
You should really do a review on RecTec. Either the common 590 or RT700. It is imo the caddy of pellet smokers.
Please do a video in the smoke cage for the Pitts and spitta
I just bought a Maverick 2000.
I’m wondering if I should get rid of my Camp Chef griddle and buy the Pitts and Spitts griddle insert?
Does anyone have any experience with the griddle?
How long to heat up?
Dies it heat evenly?
I enjoyed the video thinking of upgrading to the 2000.
I currently have a recteq 700.
Works very well, well built too.I need to cook more at one time.
Thanks Mark..
Green mountain Daniel Boone is excellent
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm on the fence between Yoder and Pitts and Spitts. Suggestions?
I'm so torn, I have wanted a Rec Teq 700 for about 2 years now but I keep looking at these pitts and spitts, I don't think I can jump from 1100$ for the rt700 to 3k plus for this but the second shelf and the griddle are amazing bonuses. It's either buy this guy or the 850 (since the 2000 is way more room than I would ever need) or get the rt700 and then a Blackstone. One that does it all or two that do both well?
How would you compare this to the woodwind pro?
i thought he hated pellet smokers…finally selling out 😂
Fantastic content – not an infomercial; genuine usable info – thanks!
