Bullshit. Use a side-wheel can opener and the lid will be preserved with no sharp edges. I fold a small square of plastic wrap for an even tighter fit, sandwich it between the lid and the can, and secure with a rubber band length-wise. Perfectly economical way to store something that I’m going to use within a week.
I hear you & I know you’re much more knowledgeable about this kind of thing than I am but my mother’s voice is ringing in my ears so loudly, I can’t do it! 😳😂
Not really ‘storing’ when you just can’t be bothered transferring to another container.
Still, I’ve never worried about it even though my mum and grandparents freaked about it.
Having said that, I presume most cans these days are aluminium/aluminum and I’m sure back in the 80s that was considered a risk for Alzheimer’s/dementia.
Oh, the government says it's ok🙄 I don't know what we're going to do. We can't trust any of these bureaucratic bunglers. I guess we are going to have to pay to get our own answers.
I'm 62 and it's been beat into my head for so long not to store food in cans that I would never do it even though I know that it is now perfectly safe. I don't even keep food in glass containers longer than 3 days (just a preference).
Surrender the recipe.
You are using " the duck " in a recipe we must know what it is.
Don't leave stuff in cans.
Seriously who buys Goya after the trump bs
Plastic can lids are the best. Just make sure that you don't bury the can behind other stuff. Keep it in front to remind you to use it up ASAP

even after transferring to a glass container, still no more than 4 days, unless it's put in the freezer
Boy will your refrigerator stink

It's lovely to see your mom!!!
Mom always said absolutely not! Especially tomato sauce
Lol
put a rubber band over the plastic or if you used a side opener, the lid back over the plastic
At least it wasn't the same organization that told us that it was safe and effective
NO CAN!

It is a bigger botulism hazard to keep it in the can
NO WAY!
Always thought cans were tin lined. Never heard of lead.
Never ….Don't store food in cans for 4 minutes …You gotta be careful with the people on Americas Test Kitchen and Cooks Country …….Their wrong a lot …
4 days. Why 4 days?
I would trust you long before I would trust the USDA.
It has never occurred to me to put an opened can of anything in the refrigerator.
Oh, the government says it's ok🙄

Best eat it then !

Wow I literally put a can in the refrigerator for the first time last night… who notified you of this? 😅
America's Test Kitchen saving lives one open can at a time.😊
No, you should store your food in the fridge or the stomach.
Is this applicable to all cans that originated in the US? What about cans from foreign countries, like tomatoes from Italy, fish from Thailand, etc?
Glass is better because of BPAs
