Alas, Johnston County Hams went out of business in 2019, so ATK needs to re-do this taste test.
I'm gonna get a cooks spiral sliced 89 cents a pound
They are much cheaper in the store now…
Johnstons is closed now.
This is just a Johnston commercial.
For me, the go-to hams are either an Amana or a Hormel.
Damn for a 7-9 lbs ham at Sam's Club is $65
Harrington's of Vermont sells exceptionally good hams online.
Hi, After while crocadile, CAYA
Love watching this stuff
How about country ham? ( a vidio maybe?)
By far the best Iโve ever tasted is from New Braunfels Smokehouse. My favorite is the Honey Glazed, but the Hill Country Peppered Hams are also excellent. Both are available as spiral-sliced.
I was very disappointed to not see Smithfield ham on that panel. We've bought it for decades and it never fails to satisfy and the price is competitive. I've tried several hams including Honeybaked and Smithfield is still my favorite by far.
Seems like every choice they make is something unavailable to me in New England. No help.
How come theses Taste Videos always seem to pop up when lโm hungry? I need a Ham Sandwich! ๐ฅช
What label is Johnston Spiral Ham made available in Utah?
Google says Johnston County Ham is permanently closed.
HoneyBaked is John Morrell EZ-cut. No water added. HB adds the sugar and slices the ham which dries it out. Buy unsliced.
No thank you! This company had an outbreak of listeria in 2018!! :-O
The winner is now out of business.
Hi, can you guys provided a link cannot seem to find this him anywhere? Thanks
Fun that you mentioned ancient Rome. I'm a food historian, and my book on the history of pigs shows that we got a lot of food ideas from the Romans, including putting mustard on sausages. However, it was the Celts who gave us ham.
Is there a national brand that compares to Johnston county ham like you did with the mayonnaise
Love these videos. Thanks
After I bought a ham once that was so salty it was INEDIBLE(!), = (53%!!) so now I ALWAYS pay VERY CLOSE attention to the salt content (percentage) of hams I purchase from now on. (NOTHING more than 33% maximum!! 23% or 29% is better!) You want a LITTLE bit of salt, for flavor, but NOT more than 50% salt!!!!! ๐ง๐ง๐ง๐ง ๐คฏ๐ก๐ซ๐๐คข๐คฎ
{{When I saw that one ham that was 53% salt, I thought, โGee, that is more salt in there than there is meat in it!โ}} NEVER ๐ EVER again!!
READ THOSE LABELS = โ> โLet the buyer BE aware!!โ
Thanks for the heads up on Johnstonโs products!! Iโll look for them from now on!! ๐๐โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ ๐๐๐ฅฐ๐๐๐๐๐๐คค๐คค๐คค๐คค
Where did "man" first come up with sulfides and curing salts?
One of their hams escaped into the audience at 1:18
We used to buy HoneyBaked hams for our holiday. We moved to a new town and traded with a new HoneyBaked ham store. One time. The ham tasted more like a block of salt we put out for the livestock. Took the remainder back to the store for our refund guarantee and they said no refund. We said no more business from us or our neighbors and family. Will never eat another HoneyBaked Ham. Used to get the Johnston County hams when we lived in Tennessee but could not find them in our new home. Now it seems Costco, of all places, is advertising them. Time to try them for our next holiday.
Buy local. Youโll find what youโre wanting, and your community will be better too.
Sugardale is about the only one my husband can eat.
How about a focus on the best affordable hams? The recommended ham is more than I'll spend on the whole meal by a lot! Most Americans, by a high percentage, cannot afford "the best." So what is good that we can afford?

On their website, 10 lb cooked ham would cost ~$127 to ship to PA. Too much for me.
Well their prices just rose.
I've never liked Honey Baked Hams – they are too sweet for me, but I know others love them. Interestingly Johnston's only seems to be available via a third party shipper online or in Costco or Sam's Club. Wholesale ftw!
….Beelers. https://www.beelerspurepork.com/ Natural Grocers…Wonderful.
I buy local only, to support me community. Ans I'm never disappointed. In my area it's Dietz & Watson or Hatfield.
Hi
Probably good ham but not available online. I emailed the company and they replied that they do not sell this particular ham online. The only Johnston County ham I found online is a honey cured one.
Since they didn't here you go.ย http://www.countrycuredhams.com/honey-cured-spiral-sliced-ham.php
Nope, I'm sticking with Honey Baked, family favorite for 30 plus years.
The one man I'm the audience really was into it
I buy the cheap, salty ham and then soak in it water for 24 hours to draw out the extra salt. Cause I'm a maverick that ain't gonna pay more than $.99/pound for spiral ham.
Well everyone should know that NC & VA have the best Hams!
That collar up thing is so annoying… NO ONE in real life does that.
So where can i find that winner when i live in PA?
Any thoughts on Boar's Head. I don't eat much ham, but the times I've eaten Boar's Head ham slices, it was delicious.
"Porky deliciousness"? Love that description!
