Wow the Kitchen aid limits… just wow. I’m so happy the researcher is out there. I will not be purchasing this kitchen aid I was saving for.
Best stand mixer is the one you use every day! Or at least once a week…😀😉😉
Just get a Wilfa Probaker !! its the best, there is nothing better but its pricy, i paid 1000€ for it a few weeks ago. The Wilfa is one of the only machines that have a rotating bowl and a rotating dough hook, just like the pros at every bakerie are using (just their machines are a lot bigger and cost a lot more). I looked through 100 machines, because i wanted the very best and i found it with the Wilfa Probaker.
Nearly 20 years ago, I bought a Viking 7 quart, w/ paddle, whip, and hook, for around $800. My wife gave me the meat grinding attachment for Christmas that year. Still have it, still use it several times a week. IMHO, one of my smarter purchases.
Came here looking for an alternative to our KitchenAid Artisan. The security of the bowl to the mixer is also pretty much a joke. I tried to make a pretty small batch of dough for pita bread this morning (~500g). I did exceed speed 2 and had it on 3 or 4 (so still nowhere near the highest) and about a minute and a half in the force of the dough pushed the bowl past the “locks” and started free spinning and whipping around. I was about 6’ away at the sink, but my 4 year old was right next to it on a stool watching. Thank god it didn’t hit her in the face and thank god my hands weren’t near it because it would have probably broken fingers. I had no idea you weren’t supposed to go above 2 for any type of kneading, so that’s on me, but honestly what is the point of having a stand mixer that can’t knead? Looks like Ankarsrum is going to be my next investment. I’m going to try not to use the KitchenAid anymore until I can get it replaced. The girls always want to “help” when we cook and I can’t chance them getting hurt by malfunctioning equipment when they aren’t even touching anything.
I got rid of my kitchen aid. I have an Ankarsrum. It’s the best mixer ever.
Kitchenaid 3 dead in 6 years, just ordered new gears. Keep looking for a used 20qt Hobart
Is Kenwood not available in the US? My grandmother swears by hers, and I've wondered how they compare to the KitchenAids 🤔
My favorite is the Bosch mixer! I used my first one for over 40 years. During the first 20 years of that time, I made 8 loaves of bread at a time each week. Plus I would use it for other things. This sturdy machine handled all that and more. After 40 years of going strong it only worked properly on the low speed and I thought it was time to get a new one but it might have repairable. I love Bosch. I don't know why you didn't test it.
My 3rd kitchenaid in5 years just took a dump, im looking for a different brand this time, 400 a pop ain't cutting it in the budget department.
And where is the Bosch?
What you overlook and probably we all overlook lately in our mad dash to always have shiny new toys is how remarkably long lasting and easy and cheap to fix the Kitcheaid is. But still great quick review video.
How viable are kitchen aid attachments and would they give it more value for versatility (if you use it) or is it more of a gimmick?
Would love to see how the Teddy Varimixer will compete 🙂
Why didn’t you have the Bosch in this test? It’s a great mixer at a good price. Hands down better than kitchenaid and half the price of ankarsrum and an excellent dough mixing machine.
I have a Kitchenaid Classic and bought a refurbished Wolfgang Puck mixer similar to the Bosch mixer it has timer and speed displayed it out does the Kitchenaid for about $80.00.
Does ATK have an opinion on the Bosch mixer?
You guys didnt mention Bosch
Was Bosch not included in the test?
Bosch ?
Concerning KitchenAid, My Mom has a stand mixer from the 70s that is a beast and has never had an issue. It can take everything you can throw at it. We have one from the 90s that is just as good and have never had a issue concerning time limits. If anything their warning shows how cheap they've gotten with the mixer and parts used in it. Like everything today nothing is built to last and designed to break at some point and be thrown away and replaced.
There's a lot more different stand mixer companies out there. That would've been a better review
I bought a kitchen aid because everyone said it’s the best thing ever. Bought the big pro model and spent an arm and a leg, I was NOT impressed. It doesn’t get the bottom of the bowl or the sides so I’m constantly stopping and scraping the bowl down, because the head doesn’t tilt back it makes it much harder to add ingredients or scrape down, “but I bought it because I needed a heavy duty one” it’s powerful but it doesn’t seem like it’s designed all that well.
Why don't I see the Bosch Universal or Nutramill mixer
Any testing of The Instant Brands Pro 7.4qt mixer?
Great review. Let me let you in on a little "secret." KitchenAid can take a lot of abuse before it burns out. That said, if you want a KitchenAid, forget their warranty. Buy it at Costco and then you have a lifetime GUARANTEE. Manufacturers who sell to Costco are much more likely to honor their warranties because they know that you can simply take their item back to Costco, and then they have to accept the return. YOU control how things go, not the manufacturer. So, KitchenAid comes with a lifetime guarantee when you buy it at Costco. Easy…!
I think KitchenAid discontinued the proline 7 and replace it with the new 7 quart model and there not as good. With the proline you can make bread all day long not time limit. The only thing KitchenAid precise for big batch of dough for this model is use slow speed, no tome limit. The big difference between the 2 is the motor the proline have the dc motor of the commercial model the 8 quart.
My Kitchenaid is over 70 years old and still runs like a top. It belonged to an aunt.
I bought a Cuisinart SM-50 mixer about 4 or 5 years ago. I got it for a lot less than a KitchenAid and it can do everything a KA can do as the hub is compatible with KA accessories. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it came with a coated aluminum beater and dough hook. Options were limited since this mixer is not as popular as KA. But recently on Amazon, I found a stainless steel beater and dough hook made for the Cuisinart mixer. I bought both and now I don't need to worry about aluminum residue getting into my food.
Great review, I turn to ATK for all my equipment needs! But one question I have is how the attachments compare between the ankarsrum and the kitchenaid – particularly the pasta roller. I have depended on my kitchenaid for this capability but I’m worried if I upgrade to an ankarsrum I will be less impressed. Please let us know if you test this! I would so appreciate it 🙏🏼
My kitchen aid classic is 32 years old and going strong.
Nice Review. I trust it.
My mother had a Sunbeam stand mixer for as long as I can remember and she gifted me a new one when I got married. Still works fine after 35 years. I don’t do dough but it does have the hook attachment. Reading the instruction it has a drive to turn the bowl separate from the drive to turn the attachments.
I have owned the Kitchen Aid 4.5qt flip top, 5qt pro and have now moved up to the 7qt pro. I have passed all of my previous models on to my children and they are still in use. I also bought that paddle with the bowl scraper and it works quite well, Really reduces the amount of bowl scraping though I still do one final check to make sure nothing was missed. I am retired and I make a lot of pizza dough and bake bread 3 or 4 times a week. The kneading capacity and power is outstanding. I knead on speed 2 for 6 to 10 minutes without a problem. The only time it has issues is kneading butter rich dough when it sometimes has trouble grabbing onto the slippery dough. My paddle and dough hook are nylon coated. I mostly hand wash them but have put them in the dishwasher too. No problems with any chipping. I also like Kitchen Aid for the attachments on the power hub. These machines can be pricey but they live up to their reputations
