Picanha, the superstar of Brazilian beef cuts, is celebrated for its mouthwatering taste that dances on your tongue! These steaks are extremely easy to prepare. I started by preheating the BBQ to 475°F. I took the picanha out of the fridge 45 minutes before using it. This lets the meat come up to room temperature. I cut it into thick steaks. On a baking sheet (to reduce mess) I rubbed the steaks with a generous amount of salt, freshly ground black pepper and vegetable oil on both sides.
I cooked the steaks for roughly 2 minutes on one side and then rotated the steak 90° on the same side. Then I flipped the steak over and repeated the same two steps. There’s no need to keep turning steaks over many times while cooking. I cooked the steaks to somewhere between medium rare and medium (around 135°F). You can cook them for less time or longer depending on your preference.
Once the steaks were ready, I let them rest for about 5 minutes, indoors, covered with tented aluminum foil.
