The Ultimate Char Siu Pork Recipe (Chinese BBQ Pork) CiCi Li – Asian Home Cooking



Char Siu Pork is Cantonese BBQ Pork. If you have been following me for some time, you know that I made Char Siu Pork before. Today, I’d like to remake this recipe and address some of your questions from before. And this is what I call, the ultimate Char Siu Pork recipe!

Char Siu Pork Written Recipe:

Serves: 6 to 8
Prep time: 10 minutes
Marinate time: Overnight
Cook time: 1 hour and 15 minutes

For the pork
3 pounds pork butt
2 pieces fermented red bean curd (replace it with red yeast rice or red food coloring)
2 tablespoons fermented red bean curd sauce
2 tablespoon oyster sauce
2 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
2 tablespoons rose cooking wine (mei kuei lu chiew) (or replace with other cooking wine)
4 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon five-spice powder
½ teaspoon white pepper
3 garlic cloves, minced

For the glaze:
3 tablespoons honey (or replace with maltose)
3 tablespoons hot water

  1. Yup, maltose is the authentic way to go. But it costs an arm and a leg to buy here in Norway. I miss the streets of Hong Kong, and hawker stalls of singapore when thinking of this dish. Mmm char siu, Tsingtao and smelling the aromas from the stalls. My first teenage gf was half chinesem (25 years ago). The girl migh have had a chinese temper, but oh boy do I thank her and her dad for the introduction to char siu.

  2. Hi CiCi, evening what the difference? prefer the first one simple fast and easy don't like to put it over night hahah… prefer the first one thinking of making chai siu jus go ahead buy the pork and season in the morning … evening roast and we can have a good one. … tks again …
