  1. It needs way more vinegar.
    I used to make my own BBQ sauce all the time because I generally had the ingredients around the house and that tiny little amount of vinegar was no were near enough. I don't really have ratios because I'm a put it together until it tastes good kinda cook but I could tell at a glance this wasn't vinegary enough. It could also use more umami like worcester sauce or soy sauce to deepen the flavor.

  2. I worked in a bbq restaurant in college that made our own sauces and they’re mostly just ketchup and brown sugar with varying seasonings, and we never cooked them😂 just mixed it for like 15 minutes in one o those big stand mixers

  3. We make amazing bbq sauce in my family from scratch… and while the ketchup is super common, the author lost the plot somewhere in the middle haha. Generally we use ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion powder, peppers and spices, brown sugar, and a smidge of apple cider vinegar. It’s delicious and very easy.

  4. Bbq sauce normally has this much ketchup but normally it has allot of seasonings including: pepper, paprika, cayenne, molasses, garlic powder, onion powder, liquid smoke, smoked paprika, and sometimes herbs. And usually apple cider or white vinegar. And mustard.
