  1. I grew up with MSG, and now as I pretend to cook like an adult for myself, I have not figured out when to add it. Layered at every stage? Beginning to cook it and bloom? At the end as a finisher?

  2. MSG is good unless you gorge on a 12 course meal with MSG in every dish. I was given a going away dinner by my co-workers and I had to pick my favourite Chinese restaurant to go to. I ate 12 courses and then we all went to see ET which was just released in theatres. We wrapped up at a house party at my place and my co-workers were laughing at me. I knew my lips felt odd but when I finally looked in the mirror, I looked like a Kardashian 😂 (though none of them were even born then)
Thankfully only my lips were inflated and nothing else was affected.

  3. Just 4 hours ago, the “Problem Solved” channel published a video suggesting the use of MSG in foods, the exact same brand “Accent”. This does not seem casual, it looks like an ad campaign all over YouTube.

  4. I do not know why folks have a problem with MSG , yrs ago the FDA said it caused cancer , wrong , no scientific proof , now it is all about gluten free , now eggs , bacon , etc… are good for you , you decide for yourself , do not let the government decide what you should or should not eat

  5. Lab made MSG is a chiral mixture (like your gloves, there is a right a left orientation … this is organic chemistry for anyone who wants to look it up). Naturally created compounds are often chirally pure. Not sure about naturally occurring MSG, but it's possible. Anyway, the stuff gives me a serious migraine and I have good reason to avoid it. Be kind, skeptics.

  6. Msg is also used to induce diabetes in lab rats for scientific studies. Msg is not recommended for diabetics, because it causes diabetes and makes it worse, meaning it destroys the pancreas. It also worsens ADHD symptoms & theres a whole lot more negative side effects. Bon appetit & stick with salt

  7. I used to use monosodium glutamateALL THE TIME.. it's definitely addictive!
But many years ago, I learned it causes alzheimers (which runs in my family.. or does it?)
    I stopped immediately using it!
As I also quit using aluminum pots, pans, deodorant etc.
    I'm not taking any chances!

  8. I'm a big fan (and defender) of MSG when used judiciously. It is useful in so many recipes (though not sweet ones).

To make ATK's savory mix even better, also blend in 1/8 teaspoon of I+G flavor enhancer (a mixture of disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate). They are natural fermentation products called ribonucleotides found in fish and meat and can enhance the flavoring power of MSG by a factor of four.

Though widely used in the food industry, the mixture of the two compounds can be hard for the home cook to find. The one brand I've seen is "Make It Meaty" from Make It Industries and can be ordered over the Internet. (I have no connection to the company.)

  9. Have you ever had MSG poisoning? I have. And it's horrible! The symptoms are a lot like regular food poisoning. But the headache that comes with the vomiting and diarrhea feels like your brain will explode. 😯😕🤢🤮😳

  10. my mom stopped using iodized salt and replaced it with accent. She did that for months and literally developed a goiter. The doctor got mad at her and told her to stop using that accent self so you guys have to be careful on it. Make sure you add salt to, your mix or incorporate salt into your diet. And I’m talking American table salt where it has iodine. The doctor was so surprised she had a goiter problem because it’s not common to have that issue in the US. It’s more of an overseas issue. It’s very rare to have an iodine deficiency in the US unless you have like severe anorexia or bulimia or some health condition that prevents you from absorbing nutrients
