No demonstration ? 😑
Ok but how useless is this video supposed to be?
Do you forget that people watch these videos are learning? You don’t even demonstrate. What a waste.
Quick tip for storage; after you separate the fat and put the sauce in a container for the fridge, pour the fat back on to the top (once chilled and solidified) to create an airtight seal that keeps out bacteria and prevents oxidization, helps preserve it longer. It’s like putting a second cover on the sauce inside the sealed container
I have spout spout seperator. It works but when pouring it seems some of that fat pours from the top. The bottom drop out looks better. I’d ask are there complications with the bottom drop and thickness of gravy
You're not even standing in the same room as a seperator, let alone using one like the thumbnail shows. Just talking about why we should buy the one that you so helpfully linked to a store page on Amazon.
I just watched a video that shows three ways of doing this without the gadget. So, no.
that was a waste of 1:08 of my time.
Fine, but this is not why I have a fat separator in use every week.
I use it for fantastic separator for making clarified butter
I think they suggested the other style in their thanksgiving video. It's one of the ones with the measurements on it, or maybe they're just hard to see in pics of this one.
They also did another video on this one https://youtu.be/sx61ePSgOds
I hadn't heard of fat separators my entire life. I just googled if such a thing existed (because the gravy I made today had some fat in it) and got to this video. But for some reason it occurs to me that other people may be as stupid as me. If the movie "Dumb and Dumber" had a scene where the dummies were cooking and using a fat separator, they definitely should have drained out the good gravy and happily poured the pure fat on their food as the gravy. That would have been the best advertisement ever for fat separators. They would have sold hundreds of millions after that.
That's it? I'm disappointed in the lack of information. Where's Lisa McManus?
….ok but HOW did it separate itself from the pack? Without this information, it wasn't even worth the time to upload it to Youtube.
What a useless fucking video.
I actually purchased the "best" separator from Amazon for $12.99 with free Prime shipping. Not sure if the link below will actually work, but if not, simply search for "Vebo gravy separater" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078WGG27P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_P3w8EbKYBQ1JE
Why on God's green Earth would you WANT to remove the animal fat from your food?????????
That's the healthiest part!!!!!!!!!! Stop being brainwashed to fear fat!!!!! It's good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No demo? This video sucks and was a waste of time.
Could of showed us how to use it
We want proper content!
Dan, step it up bro.
Kimball would not have let this crap fly
I didn’t know that it’s possible.
And so fast!
If you've got the time (and are cheap): pour the liquid into a container, and set it in the fridge. Allow it to cool, and the fat can be picked off the top.
Quick and to the point. These things are neat though. Especially the bottom drain varieties. At least one in motion would have set this video right!
Dan come on, a demo is essential. Why did the recommended separator win over the others?
I don't see the point of videos like this if you're not gonna explain, demonstrate, and provide actual results.
Just leave it to the "Equipment Review" series, they do much a much better job.
Previous host, style, and visuals of Equipment Review videos are way better than this. Here is a link to their playlist.

It "separates itself from the pack"?
HOW?!
Okay so I'm completely unsold as far as getting myself a fat separator. Where's the demo??? If I can't afford one, what are my alternatives? I've been cooking near 10 years and never considered getting one because I consider it an unnecessary expense (and fat isn't that hard to get out of a dish if you're motivated, I find).
"this model separates itself from the pack" … Pun intended?
Dont work if you have small chunks in your liquid, you will have to pre strain it before you can use this product!! Small chunks will clog up the hole in the bottom of the Fat separator!!
lol… 34 dollars for a unitasker, not for me. I'll just continue to use a glass measuring cup and spoon off the fat from the top.
The bottom-draining fat separators are super dangerous. Their simple mechanism sometimes fails (1 in 20) to plug the bottom hole.
Imagine setting one of these on your counter, pouring your 400 degree pan drippings into it, then watching the scalding pan drippings run out the bottom and onto the counter and floor. Please, for your family's safety, avoid the bottom-drainers and stick with the "spout" models.
Where's the demo?
Endorsing an expense item with showing us a demonstration? Sorry Cuisipro, but I'm not wasting my money.
It would be great to show what other brands you tested, and show WHY it's the best out of the "pack".
huh??? looks like a high priced piece of kitchen equipment I don't have much use for when I can get an "almost" as good one for about $5.00 and use it for more than one task (extra so since you said the measurements were hard to read)
For 34.00 dollar i pay 15.00 dollar that it it don't do but one thing
Why should we use a fat separator? Why is your pick better than the rest? What were the other ones tested and why weren't they picked? This is the only video I've ever watched from ATK that I thought was pointless and a waste of time.
I'd prefer longer videos that show the products as they are tested, and why you DON'T choose them. 1 minute snippets that just tell me THIS is the one you pick really won't sell me on the product…and that's kinda the point of these videos, yes?
Here's a video explaining why you don't need a dedicated gadget for separating fat… https://youtu.be/UwsX0IzN46o
Or use a sloted spoon to skim the fat off the top like any cook would do and don't waste your money on stupid things you are going to use once.
Disappointing video – no demo showing why one was better than the other or at least showing the one you're recommending in action. What makes it better than the others etc…
Okay, still waiting for the why?
For those triggered individuals https://www.americastestkitchen.com/videos/3865-fat-separators
People who complain about single-use gadgets are simply repeating Alton Brown and think they are saying something compelling. Hilarious. Alton Brown does it for show and you can bet he has a kitchen full of unitaskers…most certainly a fat separator.
Dear ATK show don't tell
34 dollars? Dan, I use a turkey baster to suck the fat off the top. It works for me and then the baster has two uses.
