In this video, I’ll try to make the perfect air fryer steak recipe with this steak experiment using a couple different coatings of butter vs. oil vs plain steak. The results were quite surprising!

Beef tallow.
Lol granite worktops cracking? They weren't granite.
I have a ninja air fryer which has a grill plate in it. Preheated that for 5 mins or so (whatever it did) then it basically cooked 2mins either side and was pretty good
This is a NOVICE with a poor airfryer. Look Elsewhere. Pretty much everyone on the comments knows you preheat to 400 for minimum of 5minutes. Place the room temperature presalted (min of 2 hrs best if salted the day before) steak in a hot airfryer. Cook 400. (If you have a 6qt this works better than a 9qt. The more space in the basket the longer it has to cook. Buy a square basket 6qt Gourmia.) I like preheat 400 5min cook 6+6, flipping in the middle. I also have on occasion bacon fat to brush on the ribeye. Perfection.
Cooking them on a cookie rack will never get you a crust. A cast iron tray would help.
It's the air fryer you use
I have a Cuisinart air fryer and it will put crusts on steaks at 400 degrees.
How about cooking it in the air fryer until about 115-120 internal and then finishing it searing in a pan with some butter, rosemary and garlic? Like a reverse sear. I can do reverse sear in the oven and in the grill smoking it and then searing it. My timing on the pan alone is always off lol.
You have to use the same rack level through out a test. You changed how close the steaks were for. The heating elements.
Thank you for this video. I was planning on air frying a couple of steaks. Maybe I will still air fry them but pan fry them at high heat first just to get a crust and nice color.
I've been cooking ribeyes in my air fryer and they come out looking way better than that. Thats odd. But having said that I preheat my fryer for 5 mins before I cook. The grate is on the bottom lifted about an inch 1/2 from the bottom too. 400 for about 7 minutes each side.
Hit'm with a torch!
Nothing better than a good ole cast iron pan.
My guy is extremely inexperienced with air fryers. Stick to original grilling or skillet because clearly you don't know what you're doing with your air fryer…. Have you taken the time to preheat the oven? That's standard knowledge on damn near every oven, especially air fryers.
Just ate the most delicious crusty airfried steak before watching this.
You're problems are many:
dry your steak with a paper towel both sides. salt before putting in. (or hour before who cares) just make sure it's dry.
PREHEAT 400
steaks way too close together. (that's why the other one came out better)
only 1 at a time sorry.
I generously salted mine with pink h salt both sides right before.
ZERO on my steak, no butter, oil nothing just salt.
8 minutes both sides but I like my steak med/well. DO NOT KEEP OPENING OVEN AND DICKING AROUND WITH TEMPERATURE GAUGES, STOP!. Just a quick flip and close the dang door.
6-7 minutes each side if you like blood.
omg mine was so juicy omg best steak ever. but i use a gourmia large air f oven.
That looks like shoe leather. Forget it…
As a person who eats Carnivore for the past three years, I have tried every way to cook a steak in the air-fryer. I recommend to spread home-made Ghee on the one-inch steaks. I cook with a pre-heated Cosori air-fryer at 400% for 8 minutes on each side, flipping only once. The result is medium-rare.
🖖👌
We have been cooking our steaks and hamburgers in the Air Fryer. Preheat to 400 for 5 minutes minimum. Season dry and place in fryer. No oils. 6 minutes each side for a Ribeye at 1"-1.25" is perfect for medium rare. Burgers are 6 minutes each side for 1/4lb (115grams) and these come out perfect. No fussing.
Unsalted Butter is the only way to go.
try a Ninja Foodi XL all in one… where you can air fry and then sear in the same appliance… also curious about the ninja outdoor grill smoker, but idk if you do outside videos
dude you sear them in a pan then finish em off for 5 min in the fryer
i thought everyone knew that
You must’ve done some research? Watch the Guga foods video. He used a small, stainless steel dish, put it in the air fryer, heated it up…… and did get quite a nice crust. I find it hard to believe you would not have thought of trying something along those lines! You need to think outside of the box!
I cheated my air fryer came with a grill grate and a grill setting lol
8 min salt pepper garlic powder in non stick aluminum wrap the whole steak also use mustard as binder 💥 boom I’m telling u guys 🎉
PRE HEAT 5 MINS BRFO
Maybe it's your air fryer. I've made the perfect steak with my air fryer before 🙂
I’ll take a gas grill for taste and looks or even a cast iron frying pan thanks I have an air fryer and love it but not for steak
Preheat to 400 degrees and start with frozen stakes. Works much better.
Definitely didn’t cook long enough and flip in between.
We eat steaks almost daily in our air fryer – you have to learn how to use your air fryer and set the temp appropriately (it's not about flash cooking on the highest temp). Perhaps read your instruction manual?
Real handy when there's just the two of you. Beats having to heat up the oven to warm stuff up. Great for frying bacon…not near MyBest.Kitchen the mess and so much better than micro waving. Ton's of stuff at the grocery store just made for air frying.
Use frozen meat
Those steaks looked good and you said they were good. Also almost all of the comments disagreed with your premise. Win some lose some. At least you got some views
How about frying them in pan with butter first just until you get that crust then put them in Air fryer patients 👍
Why not just sear after???????????
I season my steak, preheat your oven. Cook on 400 degrees for 12- 15 min. All if this will give you a nice color, flavor and juicy steak.
its because you have a sucky "air fryer." looks more like a mini oven.
id like to see a thin steak done in an air fryer like a flat iron or something
Preheat it!
Don’t call it a crust unless you get it like Guga does With a flamethrower
Ahhhh no.
I think it’s better to cook in an air fryer that has more of a tray than a rack, because when you preheat it’ll start sizzling like you would hear in a pan. In other words I believe it’s ur air fryer because I have a 6qt Bella air fryer
Scientific method states you only change one variable at a time. Here you changed the temp, the oil used, and the duration
Hey guess what…… I did it in an air fryer. 2 1nch pre heat 10 min 400f so when I lay it in tray is sizzles. 8 min, flip 6 min rest 7 min baste garlic butter perfect
Best ribeye I ever had was cooked in an airfryer. 7 minutes per side at 400° …only salt. JUICY !
Preheat for 5 minutes at 400..also I never use a rack..always the grill pan . Some don't have that tho.
