I would coat them in some flour and bit of sweet paprika powder and then fry them in a small pot. Takes about the same time, and is a thousand times more delish. The problem with the recipe is not the microwave per se, but that the onions are added to the cold oil. That is a big no when frying things

Pro tip: if you do this make sure you check it every minute or so starting at like 2 minutes. I did like half a shallot and it took 3 minutes of microwaving
