Chicken Kurma – South-Indian Style

Chicken kurma is one recipe that pairs well with almost all Indian main course dishes. This chicken kurma recipe is the most common side dish that my family loves and ask me to make all the time.

Ingredients

Chicken – 1 Kg
Gingelly Oil – 2 Tbsp
Onion – 2 Nos Chopped
Few Curry Leaves
Green Chili – 2 Nos Slit
Tomato – 2 Nos Finely Chopped
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 Tsp
Rock Salt – 1 Tsp
Water – 2 1/2 Cups
Coriander Leaves

To Make Masala Paste
Gingelly Oil – 2 Tsp
Whole Spices
(Cinnamon, Cardamom, Clove, Star Anise, Fennel Seeds & Stone Flower)
Ginger – 1 Inch Piece
Garlic – 6 To 7 Cloves
Onion – 2 Nos Chopped
Green Chili – 5 Nos Chopped
Tomato – 2 Nos Chopped
Salt – 1/4 Tsp
Grated Coconut – 1/4 Cup
Roasted Chana Dal – 1 Tbsp
Poppy Seeds – 1 Tsp (Optional)
Coriander Powder – 2 Tsp
Water – 1/4 Cup

Method
1. Saute whole spices, onions, green chilies, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and let it cool
2. Add it to a mixer grinder, add coconut, roasted chana dal, poppy seeds and coriander powder and grind it to a fine paste by adding some water
3. Heat some oil and saute onions, green chilies, curry leaves
4. Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt and saute
5. Add chicken pieces and cook it for 10 mins
6. Add the ground masala paste, add water and cook for about 30 mins
7. Finally, add coriander leaves and serve hot.Chicken Kurma – South-Indian Style
