Easy Char Siu 叉燒 (Chinese BBQ Roast Pork) recipe | 5 ingredients only | Family Recipe | No Oven

This Char Siu 叉燒 (Chinese BBQ Roast Pork) recipe is passed down to me from my mother-in-law who learnt it from her late father. My late grandfather-in-law came up with his very own version of the Char Siu recipe using 5 ingredients that were readily available then in South East Asia when he migrated from Guangzhou, China to this region many decades ago. This recipe is so easy and you can make it using just a heavy bottomed pan.

This Char Siu 叉燒 (Chinese BBQ Roast Pork) recipe makes Char Siu that is on the slightly sweeter side compared to the more savoury ones typically found in Singapore and Malaysia. The addition of the gula melaka (palm sugar) gives the Char Siu a smokey aromatic sweetness and the copious amount of shao hsing wine gives it an extra Oomph! Our family love this recipe and we are sharing this with you so you could try it too :).
