  1. This is what separates us from Central Texas. Basically we chop the brisket up and cover it with sauce and condiments. Aka Central Texas lets the meat stand on its own, and we mask ours…. That’s why Central Texas makes the best BBQ.

  2. Thank you so much for bringing some spotlight to our little town! My dad is Bobby Langbartels from the video, and I’ve grown up around Stephen my whole life. I still have pictures from when I was 11 years old at the benefit! I even worked at Riverport a bit my senior year of high school and when I was home from college. Such a great place with absolutely amazing people, not to mention the spectacular food! (Swamp fries truly are as good as they look) Stephen truly is such a light in our small town and I’m so thankful that he and my dad are such good friends so I have the privilege to know someone as great as him. Now after watching this I gotta get some BBQ before heading back to school after break is over!! 😋

  3. Al….what a beautiful story and what's best about it teaches you as an individual not to give up but to keep on pushing when the odds seem to be against you. My brother keep those kind of videos coming and great thing about it they're real stories. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. From your Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹 brother. Cheers 🍻

  4. the story of that fire brought tears to my eyes. its just a testament to the power of bbq and what it means to a community. and good lord i wish our hero nothing but the best in the future. this was a truly awesome video shot with such honesty and truly showcasing this mans passion for what he does day in day out to feed his community and his family… thanks for sharing with us.

  5. BBQ is soul food, and Al is a storyteller of its soul. This is a wonderful story of triumph over tribulations and the value of a loving community. God bless Stephen Joseph, his family, and his community for pouring out their hearts on each other and on this film, as it is an inspiration to us all. As for BBQ techniques, thanks also for showing us that smoking overnight at 200 degrees is a good thing, and it's fine to leave the membrane on ribs and also not glaze them, to chop brisket, to smoke with hickory wood, and to be a creative as you wish with seasonings. Kudos to Daniel Vaughn for discovering this diamond in East Texas, and to Al for shining a brilliant light on it.
