Banana Flip Cake Recipe

Ingredients
1 package yellow cake mix (regular size)
1 package (3.4 ounces) instant banana or vanilla pudding mix
1-1/2 cups 2% milk
4 large eggs, room temperature
frosting:
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
Whipped topping, sliced bananas, optional

Directions
Line 2 greased 15x10x1-in. baking pans with waxed paper and grease the paper. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, pudding mix, milk and eggs. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds; beat on medium for 2 minutes.
Spread batter into prepared pans. Bake at 350° until a toothpick inserted in the centers come out clean, 12-15 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes before inverting onto wire racks to cool completely. Gently peel off waxed paper.
Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, whisk flour and milk until smooth. Bring to a boil; cook and stir until thickened, about 2 minutes. Remove from the heat; cover and cool to room temperature.
In the bowl of a heavy-duty stand mixer, cream the butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in vanilla. Add milk mixture; beat on high until fluffy, 10-15 minutes.
Place one cake on a large cutting board; spread top with frosting. Top with remaining cake; sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar. Cut into squares. If desired, top with whipped topping and sliced bananas. Refrigerate leftovers.

  1. Both the cake and the steak looked delicious. What kind of steak did you use? My husband and I are doing the 21 day Daniel Fast but when we are done, I think I will be making both of these. Thank you for sharing and also for sharing your beautiful family with us. I love listening to Manly"s little conversations with all of you, he is so cute and very smart. Love to all of you. Have a blessed evening.

  2. That cake brought back memories. We use to buy those banana flip cakes at our country store. Yellow cake with that delicious filling and flipped over like a taco. I haven’t seen those in years. “Greatest cake ever”! 😂😂. Little Debbie made the banana twin cakes.

  3. Banana Flip cakes were made by Kerns. I think they were out of Tennessee. Later on, Little Debbie did a version. They were absolutely amazing, as only a 1970's childhood memory can be. ❤

  4. YUM!! Nothing like homemade raw fries. They are the best. And that banana flip cake brought back memories. My Dad used to do side work for people fixing radios, hand mixers, irons, etc and one widow lady that he fixed things for would always have him stay for coffee when he delivered back her item that he fixed and I always got to come along. She would often times serve banana flip cake. She added in mashed banana in the filling and then put slices on top. It was really good. That would have been back in the middle 60's.
