Yea I try my best not to over mix and do the dimple but it really doesn't seem to do too much sadly. I bet if I ground my own meat it would do it better.
Also a weighted press helps as well. If you press a lot, you end up with a smash burger but if you just press light, the end result will be even browning and flat burger.
If they are frozen when cooking then there's no way you can put a dimple in the middle unless you do that before freezing them.
Contamination on top of already cooked part, by retouching finger onto already cooked part with raw/blood finger! Yuck.

I use the tip of my little finger to poke a hole in the middle. Cooks fast and evenly every time.

I tried this and ended up with cooked burgers with a dimple.
I don't do this, and I never had that problem.
I do this to stop global warming. It's working!
Alternatively, don’t make burgers that are 8 feet thick
