New Weber Kettle owners get a little concerned when they see the black stuff peeling off their lid after a few cooks. They think it is the paint coming off and they are ready to submit a warranty claim, but that’s not what it is and the solution is easier than you think.

I had a weber tossed it when I bought a big traeger. What a waste of money. I could smoke 2 king salmon in just over an hr in my weber. After 3 hrs in a traeger- not even close.
Its creosote, dirty smoke
So another thing you can do for fun if you have the time is light up the grill with about 20 charcoal briquettes. After it heats up to around 225 put a foil pan full of water and a little dawn dish soap on and let it steam. This will loosen the oily soot and then it’s much easier the clean the lid and it comes much cleaner
Half right? It's not paint at all. FFS
Soot it’s called soot 🤬
